I read this book to my kindergarten class every year to introduce persistence and not giving up on your goals. It's got a great message and the story is humorous for the kids. Dexter, the superdog, becomes our "role model". I bought a stuffed dog like Dexter and the students take turns bringing the book and dog home. The other teachers have started borrowing my copy to give their students the same lesson.

We first got this book from the library, and I just ordered our own copy. My son and I both love it. His kindergarten class and media teacher loved it too. Little Dexter has big dreams which he realizes through learning as much as he can and exercising his body to be fit enough for the "superhero" he becomes (despite teasing from his friends and a tomcat who ends up becoming his partner). It is not at all preachy. It provides a terrific role model for keeping a good heart and working hard to realize your dreams. The illustrations are engaging, too.
This is an award-winning book, and just perfect for second and third graders.....a really cute story, and the message is great for kids to encourage them to keep working for their goals. As an added bonus, it is an Accelerated Reader book for parents and teachers looking to add it to the collection.
Den wants to be a super hero but must work to get there. I use this book each year to introduce stamina to my kinders! It is perfect!!!! A must have for all teachers!
I love this book because it show that he wants to be a hero and the process of that need to study and train to be able to do it. Highly recommend it.
Cute art. A little too wordy for my class, but I paraphrase it and then they follow nicely. It is the current favorite of one little boy in particular.
This is a book my 2nd Grade class really enjoys. Their favorite part about this book is the hidden pictures within the story. The illustrator enjoys hiding images of different animals throughout the book in clouds and within the main character, Dex. Thank you for making a book that my students enjoy reading over and over again!
This is one of my favorite read aloud books for both second and third graders. I've found that I refer back to this book many times throughout the year. I've used it for different teaching points as well. By the end of the year, many kids refer back to it for examples too. A fun book and it teaches a great lesson about never giving up. The kids love it especially the part about Dex's muscles. The illustrations are very colorful and enticing as well.
