I don't even remember which book was my first, but reading it was just a lucky accident because it was the only one that sounded interesting on the rack. That was 2007, and I was in a little town in WV taking care of my parents. I almost didn't cook meals, I was so enthralled in my new book and my new author! Lisa Gardner is my top favorite, and I am always happy to find another book, even if I have to wait for the price to be reduced! Great stories, wonderful writing, nothing in grammar or format to take my attention from the narrative. So happy to re-read!

The Killing Hour Lisa Gardner 9780553584523 Books Reviews

Another great read by Lisa Gardner, my favorite suspense mystery author. You never know what is happening next, or which direction the story will take. It keeps you guessing right to the end. I have loved every one of her many books. Keep them coming!
I have been a Lisa Gardner fan for years, have read a lot of her books, and this one did not disappoint. I was particularly struck by the vivid descriptions of the physical struggles of the captured victims..... enormously engaging. Romantic interests were well done, not soggy and over the top. As with all her books, Lisa completed the villains deterioration psychologically in a satisfactory manner... No reader scratching their head to wonder details left unresolved. Thanks, Lisa, another winner!
The book was good. I wasn't a fan of the romance, my feelings for the characters swayed between - I like them and I really don't.

The reason I knocked it down to 3 stars was because you have a victim identifying the killer and then people simply believing the killer instead of the victim. Also, there were phone calls that no one was tracing. I mean really... Otherwise good book.
"The Killing Hour," by Lisa Gardner, NY, Bantam, 2004 ISBN 0-553-58452-9 (pbk), 431 pg.

This a chilling suspense novel entwining lives of FBI trainee Kimberly Quincy & Georgia Police Agent Michael McCormack -- each has a personal agenda but combine forces to aid solving multiple paired serial abductions & subsquent painful deaths of young girls whose bodies are later discovered in desolate Georgia & Virginia outback's.

The murderer, dubbed "Eco-Killer", submits short cryptic 'Dear Editor' notes to local papers & kills the 1st of each victim pair but leaves clues to placement of the 2nd victims in remote locations where local flora, fauna & domain makes passage & escape treacherous. So yes, there's urgency in deciphering clues & locating the 2nd victim before her grisly death. Provocative use is made of many forensic specialists.

We are inundated by Gardner's minutely detailed guesome & macabre autopsy findings, of abused both living & dead bodies by unsavory fauna of flies, maggots, crawling creatures, acids, mud & we experience insufferable heat felt by search party members & victims. We learn of survival & search/rescue techniques used to overcome hostile milieu that tests the strength & fragility of the human condition. A double whammy "Hitchcockian" ending is satisfying & muses "Why Do Murderers Murder?"

The author's alternation of passages between murderer, his quarry & the "good guys" (Kimberly, Mac, et al) is sorta choppy like Huxley's "Point Counterpoint" -- & p. 145 commentary "...to find oxygen in air that was 90 percent water" over-reaches. But, Gardner's command of technical, romatic, & fictional facts made this an entrancing & chilling macabre read. I do recommend!
Kimberly Quincy, daughter of legendary FBI super agent Pierce Quincy, has single-mindedly pursued a dream of becoming a FBI agent. Now in the intense sixteen-week training at the FBI Academy, her goal is severely setback when she discovers the body of a young female in a woodsy area while on a training run on the supposedly secure military base. Not only does the victim resemble her older sister Mandy insidiously murdered six years before, but she meets GBI agent Mac McCormack who has been led from Georgia to Virginia in the pursuit of a cunning serial killer and is certain that this is his latest killing. Kimberly feels called to put her future FBI career in jeopardy by taking an unprecedented leave of absence to help in the investigation with Mac, though they are not welcomed by the agencies in charge.

The author reintroduces Pierce Quincy, whose specialty is profiling, and Rainie Connor, partners in a private investigating firm, to help in this puzzling case because of its "insider" implications. In addition, Quincy's expertise is needed to contend with the operating motif of the killer, which is to purposely leave clues on the victims to point to the next one and to leave cryptic messages in newspapers. Some readers may be disinterested in the scientific details of the killer's clues, but they are reasonably well integrated into an interesting plot, though the perpetrator remains incompletely drawn. The Kimberly-Mac relationship takes center stage in the book. For those familiar with The Next Accident and The Third Victim, Kimberly parallels Rainie in having issues that inhibit her from becoming deeply involved with a male, regardless of the attraction. In addition, Quincy and Rainie unexpectedly have some questions about their relationship.

This is another good Lisa Gardner effort, though it is not quite as compelling as say The Survivors Club. But it is recommended.
I have read virtually every book you have (that is the truth), except your love stories which I am not a fan. You are a fantastic writer bringing suspense and excitement to your books. I can hardly put one down. Unfortunately, while this book was exciting it was weak in two areas. First too much filler that had nothing to do with the story/mystery (boring) and second unlike most of your books I could not find much in the of clues to help identify the killer. One of the things that make your books exciting is you usually leave "bread crumbs". I will continue to look forward to any new books that you write.
