I find this book way better than Hooking Up. It shifts from the original romantic story to the whole family oriented book. Complete with all the drama, angst, and joy you certainly feel when you are with your family.Get ready with your tissue when you read this book, as you would certainly feel the way the author conveyed the love between a mother and her child. How losing a loved one is such a devastating experience. I loved how Ryan, Caitlin, Maria, and even Benjie have complemented each other. Their characters were well blended and you wouldn't feel that somebody was out of place. Even the Sensei has made some improvement in the characterization and in this book you will find his presence more enjoyable and valuable so it seems.
Although the book has more of Maria and Caitlin moments you can still sense the way Ryan has become more protective of Caitlin and Benjie. The love story between Ryan and Caitlin was overshadowed by the mother-daughter relationship of Caitlin and Maria, you will still feel it was worth the read. Kudos to the author for not sticking to the love story of Caitlin and Ryan from the first book and braved to create this sequel with more substance coming from all the book characters.

At first I questioned why a second book, cause it started out slow and I wanted to roll my eyes. I still did sometimes, just cannot understand why she would constantly go to her gran, who isn't supportive and crude. Spoiler alert-I knew something wasn't right with the mom. I guess it right. I was bawling my eyes out by the two last chapters. Great storytelling and wonderful writing....I was wrong about writing another book...it was well done.
For me, this was by far the better of the two books.
Caitlin and Ryan have got this far, but what is going to happen next? Ryan's vicious ex-wife, his lovely son, and the discovery of Caitlin's own "real" mother make this a really enjoyable read.
While Hooking Up is a fun romance, this is far more poignant - and brought me to tears at one stage. But, enough of that because of spoilers.
If you want a romance with a twist, one where the two main characters are already a couple, but face some harsh challenges that could pull them apart forever, then this is for you.
The story is strong, believable, and draws you in. I finished it within 48 hours, and look forward to the next book by this author.
This is the 2nd book in this series leading on from Hooking Up. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. [See my review below]
Caitlin, what a woman she turned out to be. Having a grandmother that wasn't her blood tie and so mean, Caitlin was a better woman than me to keep on trying to involve her in her life. Walking away, then coming back again, she stood up to her, that is one thing I loved about Caitlin. Her adoring husband and his son Benjie, now, what a pair of male species. I wouldn't have minded a man like that, good father, good husband, very supportive of the people in his life. Maybe his having been married before taught him some things about how to be with women! if he leaves Caitlin, he can come to me!
Having lost her adopted parents, she has now found her birth Mother that arrives on the scene in this book. I loved her. The outcome in this 2nd book made me cry, so I had better warn you to get the tissues out.
I was gifted this book by the author as an ARC and absolutely adored it. If I hadn't been reviewing books I think I would have missed out on such talent, such 120% storytelling, and a fantastic author. Indie author? REALLY!!! its superb, more like a best seller. HONESTLY.
After a rough childhood, Caitlin is finally happy as an adult. She is married to the love of her life, and gets to be a step mother to his son. Just when Caitlyn has settled into her happy life, she is connected with her birth mother. Suddenly, Caitlin finds herself opening up, allowing herself to be vulnerable, and knowing she may be setting herself up for a fall.
This book is the sequel to Hooking Up, so many of the characters were familiar to me. I still adore Caitlin as a character, and find myself relating to her very easily. She tries to see the best in everyone, and hope for the best, which sometimes opens herself up to being badly hurt. But the moments where she is open and makes a deep loving connection are worth the possibility of pain. I feel like Caitlin really matures as a character through this sequel.
There is a distinct shift away from romance to drama in terms of the storyline, and I, for one, really liked the shift. Caitlin has her romance, and is still very much in love, but now she is exploring love within her family in a bigger sense. I liked this, and felt like it made the book appealing to a wider audience than its predecessor. The story kept me engaged, and I read it clear through in one sitting. I, personally, would like to see what life has in store for Caitlin in the next phase of her life.
I received a review copy courtesy of the author in exchange for my honest review.
After being introduced to the self conscious doubting Caitlin in book one I was hoping for a more grown-up version. The temper tantrums and wallowing in self-pity grated on my nerves. I enjoy characters which constantly evolve instead of the light bulb moment at the end.
This was Degarmo's sequel to Hooking Up. It picks up pretty much right where that book left off. It was nice to be able to read the books basically back to back, since I just discovered Degarmo's books. This story centers around Caitlin and discovering and establishing new relationships that we learned about in Hooking Up (I don't like to do spoilers.) This book like the first one has you feeling all of Caitlin's emotions right along with her. I found the characters likeable and cried with them, laughed with them and celebrated with them. I was hoping the book would dip a little more into Ryan's and Caitlin's friends in the book, but perhaps Degarmo is saving them for future books, I hope so!
